A multi-screen IPTV subscription is chosen based on the number of playbacks at the same time. Installing a player on three devices doesn’t necessarily mean all three can watch together. The distinction between registered devices and simultaneous connections avoids many errors when choosing a plan.
Registered device, profile and playback: three different concepts
A registered device is equipment associated with the account. A profile can be used to store preferences or history. A concurrent connection generally corresponds to a stream being played, depending on the service’s rules. These limits may be separate and must be included in the conditions of the offer.
For example, a household can use a TV in the evening and a tablet the next day without needing two simultaneous playbacks. If one person is watching on the TV while another is playing a video on the tablet, the need becomes different. Also check if a background playback continues to count.
How to assess the needs of the household?
- List devices actually used, rather than all devices owned.
- Notice times when several people are watching at the same time.
- Check the desired definition on each screen.
- Review the service’s location, network, and household restrictions.
- Ask how to end a session left open on an old device.
The number of profiles is not a reliable indicator of the number of reads allowed. Likewise, usable access on a computer does not prove that broadcasting to a second screen is included. Consult the conditions before purchasing an accessory or choosing a long duration.
Provide enough bandwidth for several videos
Simultaneous videos share the same internet connection. For an estimate, add up the flow rate recommendations for the desired flows and keep a reserve for other uses. Two videos each using 10 Mbit/s together require about 20 Mbit/s for the video alone; this example does not take into account variations and other devices.
Also measure network quality at each location. The TV may be properly connected while a tablet receives poorly in another room. Our article on Wi-Fi and Ethernet for the IPTV explains how to compare connections without changing the entire network.
What to do when a message indicates too many connections?
- Stop playback on unused devices.
- Close sessions according to the commands provided in your account or reader.
- Wait for the release time indicated by the service, if one exists.
- Check that your access has not been shared and change the password if necessary.
- Contact support with the exact message and affected devices, without publishing your credentials.
Avoid multiple connection attempts: this makes it difficult to track active sessions. A contract limit cannot be fixed by increasing the speed or changing the reader.
Compare plans without making a mistake
The monthly price is not enough. Compare the total to pay, duration, simultaneous connections, compatible devices and renewal conditions. On Veliova, the pricing page presents the plans for one, two or three screens; check the conditions of your offer before ordering.
Can I share my access outside the home?
Don’t assume so. The supplier’s conditions and territorial authorizations determine the permitted uses. A multi-screen plan does not automatically authorize the sharing or resale of identifiers.
